The Club World Cup group stage has finally concluded, but it has seemingly turned the tables. We’ve given awards to some of the teams. Here are the highs and the lows.

Most Disappointing - Porto

Porto’s run in the Club World Cup has been nothing short of unfortunate. They are a relatively young team and came third in Liga Portugal last season, but failure to take advantage of a weaker Al Ahly and losing to Inter Miami cost them a spot in the next round. Surprisingly, they were able to hold Palmeiras to a draw on the first Matchday and are still one of a few teams to be able to hold off Brazilian teams. With a bit more desire, they could have advanced.

The Underdog - Auckland City

Nothing speaks of underdog quite like amateur status. That’s right, one of the clubs to play in the Club World Cup this season isn't even a professional club. The team is made up of blue collar workers, teachers, and more yet they still managed to score at least one goal. Naturally, both Bayern Munich and Benfica scored a combined 16 goals against the New Zealanders, but many on the team will be happy knowing that they managed a draw against one of South America’s finest, Boca Juniors. It also means that they are one of three teams to finish bottom of their group but with at least one point.

The Comeback King - Al Hilal

Going into Matchday 3, Al Hilal had a hill to climb. Sat 3rd overall, Real Madrid and RB Salzburg were in front of the Saudi Arabian club and a draw was all both needed to advance. For Al Hilal to make it in, they needed to beat Pachuca and have Real Madrid win. For much of the game, Al Hilal were only beating Pachuca by one goal and the threat of an equalizer grew as Al Hilal changed formation. It wasn’t until the 90 '+5 minute of stoppage time that the game was put to bed and Al Hilal made it through.

The One To Win It All - Manchester City

Man City remain the only team in the whole tournament to go unbeaten, most recently beating Juventus 5-2. They’ve also managed the highest goal differential among any team, with Bayern Munich as a close second. Given their recent transfer business as well and you have a recipe for a potentially dominant tournament. They play Al Hilal in the Round of 16 and could go on to win the whole thing.

That concludes the Group Stage Review, stay tuned for coverage of the Round of 16.
